The Historic Garrison Savannah is home to the Barbados Turf Club, established in 1905 to regulate and promote horse racing on the island. The Club hosts three racing seasons each year - Spring (January to April), Summer (May to September), and Winter (November to December) - with approximately 25 race meetings annually.

Racing at the Garrison is as much a family outing as it is a sporting event. Spectators can enjoy the action from the stands or relax picnic-style beneath the shade of the tall trees that surround the track. Local food vendors add to the atmosphere with Barbadian favourites such as pudding and souse, rice and stew, fried fish, and fish cakes, while refreshments range from fresh coconut water and icy cold beer to Barbados’ finest rum.

The track itself is a six-furlong oval gras111s course, with races run clockwise at distances including 5, 5½, 7.8, 9, and 10 furlongs. Check the events calendar for upcoming race days throughout the year and plan your visit to experience this uniquely Barbadian tradition.
