Welcome to Hunte’s Gardens, one that is long considered by many to be the finest garden in Barbados. This magical, delightful retreat has been honoured with the prestigious accolade of Trip Advisor’s Travelers’ Choice 2024 and 2025 Gold Award for the Best of the Best in the world.
This is a fitting reward for owner/creator, Anthony Hunte, BCH, whose ambitious dream when he first set out to build the garden was to turn it into the most enchanting place on earth. This horticultural gem nestled in the heart of picturesque St. Joseph, garners such high admiration from those who visit.
There is the touch of classical Barbadian history with an old weigh bridge, where tractor and truck loads of sugar cane were once weighed and tallied during the property’s days as a working sugar plantation. On entering you are immediately immersed into a lush world of vibrant colours where nature is certainly on its best display.
This exquisite garden of tropical blooms, exotic flowering plants and orchids is all encompassed within a towering cathedral of stately palms and trees, with a series of small, ‘secret gardens’ where visitors can sit and fully immerse themselves with nature and quietly absorb the peacefulness.
On a veranda that overlooks the enchanting garden enjoy a thirst quenching glass of freshly made lemonade or their legendary rum punch.
If you are driving to Hunte’s Gardens, follow the many red and white signs positioned around the island.
